Visiting Bidong

Hello everyone!

If you’d like to visit Pulau Bidong, please feel free to contact Mr. Rosli Mohamad at email address lie3827@yahoo.com. He is residing in Malaysia.

According to Mr. Rosli, the best time to visit Pulau Bidong is between March and October. Unless you like monsoon season and choppy waters, the best months are from November until February.

Mr. Rosli worked as an MRCS employee on the island and he has been willingly to assist many former boatpeople to return to Pulau Bidong. Please read more about “Ex-Pulau Bidong Workers“.

Hey Anh Lam, where do you get all these info? You are hardcore about Bidong that’s for sure. Thanks for the info about Mr. Rosli. I need a guide and talk to someone on tips on getting back. I’m hardcore about going back just even for a day or two. Oh yeah, ever notice about the wreck metal boat not being on the map from Google anymore? I wonder if people finally removed it or did it corroded after all those years.

    Dear Mr. Rosli Mohamad
Me and my girlfriend want to visit the Bidong Island and spend some days there. My parents flought 1979 from vietnam to this island and i want to discover their roots. Now we are in Kuala Lumpur and want to visit Bidong island on 14.5.2011 or some days later, if it’s possible.
Can you help us to get on this island? We will take the flight to Kuala Terengganu (TGG), but we don’t know, how we will get on Bidong island.
    Best regards.
    David and Evelyne

    Hi All,

My parents passed through Pulau Bidong in 1981 before settling in Australia.

Though I was born in Australia, I am trying to find my way back to Pulau Bidong for research. Would anyone be able to offer any advice as to how to get to and from the Island. What are the restrictions (if any)? Issues regarding cultural awareness? etc…

Any advice would be much appreciated. My email is pthngo@gmail.com.

    Kind regards,

    Phuong

    • Hi Phuong,

Visting the island is open to everyone but you may not stay overnight. There are several operating boat tours that you can find them from googling.

To save money, I would suggest you arrange your trip independently. Boat tour companies have different rates to take you to the island and back to the mainland.

      Good luck.

      Lamvi.

        Hi Lamvi,

Thank you for the advice. I have been doing some research on the matter and there are quite a few options regarding accom and travel etc… I was wondering; would it be easier to find my way to Merang Jetty and from there organise a boat to the island? Or would you recommend pre booking everything from Australia? Also, would you recomment staying on the mainland or Pulau Redang. I find the idea of spending the day in a former refugee camp and the night in a resort a little odd but there isn’t much option.

        Cheers,

        Phuong

    Hello,
My parents were at Pulau Bidong before they were moved to the camp at Sungai Besi, I was born in Kuala Lumpur and we are currently residing in Canada.

I plan to visit Malaysia in August of 2012, and I am hoping to do some volunteer work to give back to the community. Does anyone know of any organizations that I can work with?

    Thanks in advance,
    Diem

    Hello Diem,

I am glad you are doing well and please send my warm wishes to your parents. There are some organizations that could use your help such as this one http://www.bpsos.org or you could involve directly with the Malaysian organizations such as http://redcrescent.org.my.

    Take care,

    Lamvi.
